As the 2026 Beijing Auto Show (Auto China 2026) prepares to kick off, smart officially unveiled the highly anticipated smart Concept #2 on April 22, 2026 during the smart Global Brand Event in Beijing, held under the theme "Change of Perspectives". This model marks the brand's return to its roots — the ultra-compact two-seater segment — serving as the spiritual successor to the legendary fortwo.

Penned once again by the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team, the Concept #2 follows a "Function becomes Fashion" philosophy. Despite its modern electric underpinnings, it retains the classic "four wheels at four corners" stance of the original fortwo.
Dimensions: Measuring just 2.79 meters in length, it is more agile than common A-segment cars currently on Malaysian roads.
Front Design: Features a closed grille paired with avant-garde split-type headlights, blending a rounded aesthetic with high-tech flair.
Side & Rear: The two-tone body creates a floating roof effect, complemented by futuristic wheels and circular taillights that echo the front design.
Body Styles: The production version is expected to launch initially as a two-door coupe, with a cabriolet version potentially following for those seeking more personality.

The smart Concept #2 does not share its platform with the smart #1 or smart #3. Instead, it is built on the ECA (Electric Compact Architecture), specifically developed by smart's R&D team for ultra-compact vehicles.
Range: Under CLTC standards, it achieves a pure electric range of 400 km, which is more than enough for urban commuting.
Charging Efficiency: A major highlight — it supports DC fast charging, taking only 20 minutes to go from 10% to 80% SOC.
Handling: With a turning radius of just 6.95 meters, navigating tight city streets or making U-turns will be effortless.
V2L Technology: It also comes with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality, allowing it to power devices like laptops or coffee machines.

The official production version of the smart Concept #2 is confirmed for a global debut at the Paris Motor Show this October.
Given smart Malaysia's aggressive product roadmap, this "new-era two-seater" is highly likely to reach local shores by late 2026 or 2027. For Malaysian fans who find the smart #1 too large and miss the original compact smart, the smart Concept #2 is definitely the EV to watch.
