High torque is indeed crucial for drag racing, as it directly determines a vehicle's ability to accelerate rapidly from a standstill and its explosive power in the medium to low rpm range. During races, high-torque engines can quickly deliver strong power at low rpm, giving the vehicle a significant advantage at the moment of launch and shortening the 0-100km/h acceleration time—this is precisely the core requirement of straight-line racing. For example, many high-performance cars modified specifically for racing enhance torque by increasing displacement, using turbocharging, or adjusting the ECU, especially achieving peak torque output in the medium to low rpm range below 4000rpm, thereby reducing shift frequency and maintaining continuous acceleration. However, torque is not the only influencing factor; it also needs to be matched with a lightweight body, high-grip tires, and an efficient transmission system (such as a dual-clutch gearbox) to maximize power transfer efficiency. Additionally, excessive torque beyond the tire's grip limit may cause slippage, so professional modifications need to balance torque output and the tuning of the traction control system.
