From the perspective of durability, AT transmissions typically have a longer lifespan than CVT transmissions, mainly due to structural differences between the two. AT transmissions use a mechanical drive system consisting of planetary gear sets and a torque converter, which can effectively buffer power impacts and operate stably for over 300,000 kilometers with proper maintenance, making them particularly suitable for frequent heavy-load or aggressive driving scenarios. In contrast, CVT transmissions rely on friction drive between a steel belt and pulleys. Although modern technology has improved their durability, the steel belt may still experience metal fatigue under continuous high-load conditions, and their design lifespan is generally around 200,000 kilometers, making them more suitable for gentle urban driving. In terms of maintenance, CVTs require replacement of specialized fluid every 40,000 to 60,000 kilometers (costing approximately 1,000 to 2,000 Malaysian Ringgit) and have higher requirements for fluid cleanliness; AT transmission fluid replacement intervals are 60,000 to 80,000 kilometers (costing approximately 800 to 1,500 Malaysian Ringgit), with relatively simpler maintenance. The actual lifespan also depends on driving habits and maintenance quality. It is recommended to follow the manufacturer's manual and avoid long-term aggressive operation, so that both types of transmissions can perform at their best.
