Which is better, buffing or waxing?

Waxing and polishing are both important steps in car detailing, but they differ in their functions and applicable scenarios. Waxing primarily forms a protective film on the car's paint surface to prevent erosion from ultraviolet rays, acid rain, etc., while enhancing the vehicle's gloss. During application, car wax should be evenly applied in circular motions using a sponge in a shaded area, then polished after drying for 5-10 minutes. It is recommended to perform this every 3-4 months. Polishing, on the other hand, removes the oxidation layer and minor scratches from the car's paint surface through mechanical or manual methods to restore the paint's smoothness. It is suitable when the paint shows significant oxidation or scratches, but care must be taken to control the polishing intensity to avoid damaging the paint surface. For routine maintenance, new cars should prioritize waxing to protect the paint, while older cars or those with poor paint conditions may benefit from polishing before waxing. When selecting car wax, consider the paint type and driving conditions: solid wax offers better durability, whereas liquid wax is easier to apply. Additionally, avoid using inferior car waxes that may cause paint discoloration.
