The windshield wiper is a key component that ensures clear visibility when a vehicle is driving in rainy weather, and its necessity cannot be overlooked. Windshield wipers are typically operated via the control lever on the right side of the steering wheel, with common settings including OFF (off), MIST (single wipe), INT (intermittent mode, suitable for light rain), LO (low-speed continuous, ideal for moderate rain), and HI (high-speed continuous, for heavy rain). Some vehicle models are also equipped with rear windshield wipers, controlled by a knob to switch between intermittent or continuous operation modes. When using them, avoid dry wiping; first spray washer fluid to lubricate the glass surface. Forcing the wipers to operate on a dry windshield or one with sand particles can accelerate rubber blade wear and even scratch the glass. Regular inspection of the wiper blades is essential. If they fail to clean effectively, show hardening, or develop cracks, replace them promptly (a check every 6-12 months is recommended). Proper operation and maintenance of windshield wipers not only ensure driving safety but also reduce replacement frequency and lower vehicle operating costs.
