Naturally aspirated (NA) engines can indeed be tuned in various ways to enhance performance, but a balance must be struck between power gains, fuel consumption, and stability. For more significant power increases, increasing the cylinder displacement or upgrading internal components like forged pistons and connecting rods are feasible options; for example, expanding the Swift's 1.5L engine to 1.8L can boost power to approximately 130 horsepower while maintaining the linear output characteristics of the NA engine. ECU tuning is also a critical step: adjusting ignition timing and air-fuel ratio can unlock potential power, but hardware modifications must be properly matched to avoid engine damage. When considering forced induction, mechanical supercharging is more suitable for aftermarket NA engine modifications than turbocharging, as it causes less disruption to the original engine structure and offers controllable boost pressure, though at a higher cost (approximately 10,000 to 20,000 Ringgit). It must be emphasized that all modifications should comply with JPJ regulations, and proven modification kits such as Suzuki Sport should be prioritized to ensure reliability. For daily driving, the smoothness and ease of maintenance of NA engines remain advantages, whereas aggressive modifications may compromise long-term durability.
