In the field of hybrid technology, Toyota has long maintained a leading position with its mature THS hybrid system. Its models such as the Corolla Cross have delivered outstanding sales performance in the Malaysian hybrid market, winning users' trust with a combined fuel consumption as low as 4.3L/100km and an 8-year/200,000-kilometre battery warranty. The top-of-the-line version is equipped with a 29.8kWh battery pack, enabling a pure electric range of 170 kilometres and a combined range of 1065 kilometres, with a starting pre-sale price of 130,000 ringgit, showing significant cost-performance advantages. Although BYD's DM-i system performs excellently in the pure electric market, its hybrid models have not yet formed a scale advantage due to the limited overall penetration rate of new energy vehicles in Malaysia, which is only 2.6%. Notably, sales data of hybrid models in 2024 shows that Japanese brands still dominate, with Honda, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz taking the top three positions in hybrid petrol vehicle sales. Considering technical maturity, market recognition and localized service network comprehensively, Toyota remains the most balanced choice for hybrid technology, while Proton, as a local brand, is more competitive in price and configuration, making it suitable for family users who value practicality.
