The regular maintenance cycle of a car needs to be comprehensively adjusted based on the type of engine oil, vehicle usage conditions, and environment. Mineral oil is recommended to be changed every 5,000 kilometres or 6 months (whichever comes first), suitable for naturally aspirated older models; semi-synthetic oil can be extended to 7,500 kilometres or 8 months, ideal for daily commuting; fully synthetic oil offers the best performance, and It is best to change it every 10,000 to 15,000 kilometres or 12 months for turbocharged or high-performance vehicles. Under special circumstances, the cycle should be shortened: frequent short-distance driving (one-way <5 kilometres) may lead to oil emulsification, so fully synthetic oil should be changed every 8,000 kilometres; prolonged traffic congestion or extreme climates (temperatures >35°C or <-20°C) require a 20%-30% reduction in the cycle; if the vehicle is parked for over 6 months, the oil should be changed even if the mileage threshold hasn't been reached. For turbocharged models, due to higher operating temperatures, fully synthetic oil is recommended to be changed every 8,000-10,000 kilometres; for vehicles older than 5 years, the interval should be reduced to 6,000 kilometres due to seal deterioration. The oil filter must also be replaced with each oil change (costing approximately RM120-RM300). It is advisable to adjust the cycle flexibly according to the vehicle manual and actual driving conditions, while cultivating the habit of monthly inspections.
