The core difference between IMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and MT (Manual Transmission) lies in the degree of automation and operation mode. As a traditional manual transmission, MT relies entirely on the driver to operate the clutch pedal and gear shift lever to switch gears. It has a simple structure, a high transmission efficiency of up to 98%, and low maintenance costs (basic maintenance is about 200 ringgit), but frequent gear shifting in urban congested areas can easily lead to fatigue. It automatically performs clutch engagement and gear shifting through a hydraulic mechanism, retaining the advantages of MT's high-efficiency transmission and low cost (with better fuel economy than traditional MT), while providing convenience comparable to automatic transmissions. Both are based on the gear structure of manual transmissions, but IMT reduces engine idling by optimizing shift timing, making it more suitable for drivers seeking fuel efficiency while desiring reduced operational burden, whereas MT better suits users who prioritize pure driving engagement or have budget constraints. Note that IMT maintenance still requires regular transmission fluid changes and avoidance of neutral coasting, and its technical essence remains within the manual transmission domain, distinct from complex automatic transmission systems like AT or DCT.
