Can I drive without fog lights?

There is no need to turn on the fog lights when driving under normal weather conditions, but the vehicle must still be equipped with a fog light system that complies with regulations for use in severe weather. According to the Road Traffic Safety Law, they should only be turned on when visibility is below 200 meters (such as in fog, heavy rain, or sandstorm weather). At the same time, they need to be used in conjunction with low-beam headlights, side marker lights, and hazard warning flashers (depending on the visibility level), and the corresponding speed limits must be observed (no more than 60 km/h when visibility is 200 meters, no more than 40 km/h when it is 100 meters, and no more than 20 km/h when it is 50 meters). Turning on fog lights unnecessarily will not only increase battery power consumption, but their strong light may also interfere with the vision of other drivers, and may even result in a minimum fine of 50 ringgit and a deduction of 1 point. It is best to check the function of fog lights regularly to ensure that the bulbs and lamp covers are in good condition, and to be familiar with the position of the vehicle's fog light switch (usually a dashboard knob or an independent button). They can be turned on in advance in fog-prone sections such as mountainous areas or tunnels, but should be turned off promptly when the weather improves.
