There are mainly six types of car transmissions, namely Manual Transmission (MT), Automatic Transmission (AT), Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT), Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), and Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). MT has a simple structure, is durable, and offers good fuel economy, making it suitable for users who pursue driving control. However, frequent gear shifting in urban driving can be tiring. AT achieves smooth gear shifting through a torque converter. It features mature technology but relatively high fuel consumption, and is commonly found in mid-to-high-end models. DCT employs a dual-clutch design, enabling rapid gear shifting and high transmission efficiency, but may exhibit jerking at low speeds, and is predominantly used in performance models. AMT has low cost and a simple structure, but its shift smoothness is inferior, leading to its gradual phase-out from the market. It provides smooth operation and fuel efficiency but has limited torque capacity, making it suitable for family cars. Transmission selection should align with driving requirements. For instance, CVT is ideal for fuel efficiency and durability; MT or DCT may be preferred for driving control; while electric vehicles typically utilize fixed-ratio transmissions. Proper transmission usage can prolong its lifespan, such as avoiding neutral coasting or aggressive driving with a cold engine.
