The elimination of front fog lights in new cars is a comprehensive result of technological upgrades and design optimization, mainly stemming from four core factors. The matrix headlights of some high-end models can even achieve more precise beam control. Second, regulations only mandate rear fog lights as warning devices, while front fog lights are optional, giving car manufacturers room for adjustment. Third, from a design perspective, the pursuit of front fascia integration allows eliminating standalone fog lights to reduce aerodynamic drag (the drag coefficient of some models decreases by 0.01), while freeing up space for brake cooling vents or thermal management systems in new energy vehicle batteries, achieving a balance between aesthetics and functionality. Finally, in actual use, front fog lights have low activation rates and are prone to misuse (such as being improperly activated in clear weather, causing glare for oncoming traffic), while the widespread adoption of daytime running lights has partially assumed their warning function in low-visibility conditions. Some models still offer front fog lights as an option in regions with frequent fog or heavy rainfall, allowing consumers to choose based on their needs.
