Fog lights should not be kept on around the clock; they are originally designed to enhance driving safety under low-visibility weather conditions. Front fog lights illuminate the nearby road surface through high-brightness yellow scattered light that penetrates fog, while rear fog lights warn following vehicles with a high-intensity red light source. According to traffic regulations, front and rear fog lights should be turned on simultaneously only when visibility is below 200 meters (such as in fog, heavy rain, or sandstorms), and they should be used in conjunction with low-beam headlights and position lights. Under such conditions, the vehicle speed should be maintained below 60 kilometres per hour, with a following distance of at least 100 meters. The intense light from rear fog lights can directly impair the vision of trailing drivers, potentially causing glare, and may even activate the automatic shut-off feature in certain vehicle models. Special attention should be paid to avoiding the combined use of fog lights and high-beam headlights, as this could lead to light diffusion in foggy conditions. Proper use of the lighting system not only prevents fines of up to 50 ringgit but also serves as a crucial safety measure on the road.
