In recent years, car manufacturers have gradually phased out front fog lights based on multiple considerations. Firstly, regulations do not mandate the installation of front fog lights, requiring only rear fog lights as essential safety equipment, which grants automakers greater flexibility in configuration choices. Technological advancement is the primary driver. Modern LED headlight clusters can replicate the penetration effect of fog lights through precise control of light angle and intensity. For instance, certain models achieve comparable functionality by enhancing low-beam dispersion or adjusting illumination range. This integrated approach not only reduces manufacturing costs for separate fog light modules (saving approximately RM100 per vehicle) but also optimizes front bumper design space. Practically speaking, front fog lights are seldom used and carry misuse risks-their intense glare may dazzle oncoming traffic in clear conditions, whereas daytime running lights suffice for basic visibility in most weather scenarios. Notably, foggy condition safety depends more on proper rear fog light usage and maintaining safe distances, as advancements in headlight technology have progressively integrated and superseded standalone fog light functionality.
