The correct use of fog lights is crucial for driving safety, especially in low-visibility weather conditions such as rain and fog. Front fog lights typically emit bright yellow light with a downward illumination pattern, effectively penetrating thick fog to illuminate the road ahead. The activation method varies by vehicle model, with three common types: rotary switch, dashboard control, and push-button. Some models require low-beam headlights to be activated first to enable the fog light function. Front fog lights should be engaged when visibility falls below 200 meters, while both front and rear fog lights must be used when visibility drops under 100 meters, in combination with low beams and position lights. However, high beams should never be used as they cause light diffusion. Note that fog lights' high-intensity penetration can create glare for other drivers in normal weather conditions, so they should be deactivated when visibility improves. Furthermore, fog lights should not be confused with hazard warning flashers (emergency lights), which are exclusively for vehicle breakdown situations. Drivers are advised to master their vehicle's specific fog light operation and conduct regular functionality checks to ensure proper use of this critical safety feature during adverse weather.
