Using 12V batteries in a 48V golf cart is feasible, but technical compatibility must be considered. If switching to 12V batteries, the total voltage must be matched (e.g., four 12V batteries connected in series to form 48V), and deep-cycle batteries must be used instead of automotive starter batteries, as the latter cannot withstand continuous discharge. Additionally, charger compatibility needs to be verified; a standard 48V charger may not be directly compatible with a 12V battery pack, and a DC-DC boost converter is required to adjust the voltage. In the long term, lithium batteries (such as 51.2V systems), despite their higher initial cost, are maintenance-free, offer a lifespan of up to 10 years, and achieve 98% energy efficiency, making them a superior choice. If lead-acid batteries are preferred, it is advisable to use the original 6V or 8V battery specifications to ensure system stability.
