Mild Hybrid vehicles do come equipped with a starter motor, but their operating principle differs from that of traditional fuel-powered vehicles. The starter motor in such models is usually integrated with an electric generator (e.g., the BAS system) and connected to the engine crankshaft via a belt, primarily responsible for quickly restarting the engine. For example, Honda's IMA system and General Motors' BAS system both adopt this design, with their 36V or 42V battery packs providing auxiliary power to the motor but unable to drive the vehicle alone. The advantages of mild hybrid systems lie in their simple structure and low cost, enabling 8%-15% fuel savings. However, their motor power is small (usually 7-14.5kW) and their regenerative braking capability is limited. Currently, mainstream mild hybrid models such as the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid or BMW Active Hybrid 7 all follow this design logic.
