When selecting the appropriate engine oil for a vehicle, three key parameters require attention: viscosity grade, quality classification, and type. In viscosity grades like 5W-30, the number preceding W denotes cold-temperature fluidity (0W/5W suits frigid zones, whereas 10W fits tropical climates), while the number following W indicates high-temperature viscosity (20/30 is advised for new vehicles, with 40 being an option for high-mileage cars). Regarding quality classification, consult the API standard (e.g., SP/SN ratings); for petrol engines, SN or SP grades suffice for routine requirements. Concerning oil types, full synthetic oil (service interval: 8000-12000km) suits most contemporary models, semi-synthetic oil (5000-7000km) provides good value, and mineral oil (3000-5000km) is restricted to outdated vehicles. Full synthetic oil priced around 150-200 ringgit per 4L adequately serves household needs. Turbocharged engines should employ full synthetic oil, while naturally aspirated engines may use semi-synthetic oil. Additionally, purchase products with anti-counterfeiting markings through authorised channels to guarantee authenticity.
