Under hot climate conditions, 5W40 engine oil is a suitable year-round choice for most vehicle models due to its excellent high-temperature stability (40 viscosity index) and low-temperature fluidity (5W grade), particularly for German turbocharged engines or older vehicles with high mileage. It is best to replace the oil every 5,000 to 7,000 kilometres or 6 months; the exact interval should be determined by consulting the vehicle manual, and may require shortening in high-temperature environments. As a locally produced product, Petronas 5W40 offers strong anti-wear properties, excellent cleaning performance, and cost-effectiveness (approximately 100 to 200 Malaysian Ringgit per bottle). It effectively combats oil film thinning caused by high temperatures and protects internal engine components. Note that new Japanese and Korean naturally aspirated vehicles may not be compatible with this oil as manufacturers typically recommend lower viscosity oils; forced usage may result in increased fuel consumption. Regular inspection of the oil's condition (colour, clarity, and level) using the dipstick serves as a practical method to assess whether premature replacement is necessary.
