Exterior rearview mirrors are fixed on both sides near the doors or A-pillars, often employing convex or aspherical mirrors to broaden the side and rear visibility, making them essential for monitoring adjacent lanes during lane changes or turns. Lower rearview mirrors are predominantly convex, focusing on the area immediately below the front of the vehicle, which assists in navigating narrow passages or gauging the distance between the vehicle body and ground obstacles while parking. Wide-angle rearview mirrors utilize specialized curvature to further expand the field of view, effectively minimizing blind spots-particularly beneficial for large vehicles or situations involving frequent lane changes. These mirrors also exhibit distinct structural differences: flat mirrors ensure precise imaging, convex mirrors provide expansive visibility, while aspherical mirrors combine both advantages. Additionally, electronic rearview mirrors, an emerging technology, transmit images via cameras and displays to deliver clear visibility in adverse weather, though their higher cost has limited widespread adoption. Proper rearview mirror adjustment is critical for driving safety; for instance, the horizon should align with the centre of the interior mirror, and the vehicle's body should occupy no more than one-quarter of the exterior mirror's view. Collectively, these varied mirror types serve as the driver's "third eye" for environmental awareness, constituting indispensable safety components.
