When the car's air conditioning filter is clogged, several noticeable symptoms will emerge. Even when the fan speed is set to the highest level, the airflow remains weak and is accompanied by fluctuating blower noise, caused by dust and debris obstructing air circulation. The clogged filter prevents the evaporator from making sufficient contact with air, making it difficult to rapidly lower the cabin temperature. Odor issues are particularly common. Pollutants accumulated in the filter foster bacterial and mold growth, emitting a musty or sour odor that may even trigger allergic reactions. Additionally, the windshield defogging function weakens due to inadequate airflow, hindering quick moisture removal and compromising driving safety. Prolonged clogging also increases the blower's workload, indirectly adding strain to the engine, potentially resulting in slower power response. It is best to inspect the filter every 8,000 kilometres or six months. Replacement costs typically range between 30 to 150 ringgit, depending on the vehicle model and filter material. Note that the air conditioning filter differs from the engine air filter-while serving distinct functions, both require regular maintenance.
