Under no circumstances should you continue driving when there is a power steering system failure, as this system directly affects the vehicle's handling safety. Especially during low-speed turns or emergency evasive manoeuvres, the driver may be unable to turn the steering wheel in time, leading to an accident. Currently, mainstream steering systems are divided into three types: Electric Power Steering (EPS), Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS), and Hydraulic Power Steering (HPS). Among them, the EPS system has a low failure rate due to the absence of hydraulic components, but any type of assist failure will increase the steering force of the steering wheel by 3-5 times. Common causes of failure include steering fluid leakage, power steering pump damage, control valve jamming, or circuit faults. In some cases, a red warning light will illuminate on the instrument panel. It is best to immediately turn on the hazard lights, slow down gradually to a safe area and stop, and contact professional maintenance personnel for handling. Maintenance costs range from approximately 500 to 3000 Ringgit depending on the vehicle model, and may be higher if the steering column or ECU needs to be replaced. Regularly checking the steering fluid level, belt tension, and system tightness can prevent such failures.
