The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) is a safety technology that prevents drowsy driving by real-time analyzing drivers' facial features and behavioral states. Its core functions include fatigue detection (such as eye closure and yawning frequency), distraction alerts (such as gaze deviation from the road), and dangerous action recognition (such as holding a phone). Current mainstream solutions adopt camera-based active monitoring, combining near-infrared technology and computer vision algorithms to capture key data like eye opening/closing degree and head posture under different light conditions during day and night. Some advanced systems, such as BYD's solution, also integrate gaze tracking and scenario-based voice prompt functions, and are equipped with a physical sliding cover design to protect privacy. Technically, DMS is evolving from single fatigue warning to multi-modal perception-for example, integrating millimeter-wave radar to monitor vital signs, or using AI to realize emotion recognition and personalized cockpit settings. With the promotion of L2/L3 level autonomous driving, DMS will become a key component of the intelligent cockpit safety ecosystem, and may expand to full-cabin occupant monitoring and interaction functions in the future.
