It has a capacity of 52.5 kWh and a range of 445 km, with outstanding fast-charging efficiency, making it suitable for middle-income groups. Meanwhile, Malaysia is advancing the mass production project of 18650 cylindrical batteries. Local technological progress by 2026 will include improvements in energy density and breakthroughs in fast charging, while battery thermal management in tropical climates remains a key challenge. Lead-acid batteries still dominate the market, but the penetration rate of lithium batteries is growing rapidly with policy support and accelerated localization of the industrial chain. Overall, the collaboration model between local and multinational enterprises and their technological innovation capabilities are the core factors of competitiveness in the current battery sector.
