It is not recommended to use tap water instead of dedicated windshield washer fluid. Dedicated windshield washer fluid is formulated with deionized water and eco-friendly cleaning agents, offering comprehensive functions such as cleaning, anti-fogging, lubrication, and anti-freezing. Its summer formula can efficiently break down stubborn stains like bug residue, while the winter version has a freezing point as low as -20°C or even -40°C, preventing pipeline cracking. Its cleaning power is only effective for surface dust and cannot handle oil stains or insect carcasses. The lack of lubrication accelerates the aging of wiper blades, and it may freeze in low-temperature environments, damaging the water spray system. From a cost perspective, a 2-litre bottle of windshield washer fluid costs approximately 15 to 30 Malaysian Ringgit, which is far lower than the expenses for wiper replacement or pipeline cleaning caused by using tap water. To ensure clear driving visibility and extend the lifespan of components, It is best to choose the corresponding type of windshield washer fluid according to the season to avoid losing more by seeking small gains.
