Can I top up engine coolant myself?

You can add engine coolant by yourself, but you must strictly follow the operating specifications to ensure safety and effectiveness. First, confirm that the engine is completely cool to avoid scalding caused by high-temperature operation. Then, open the engine compartment to locate the coolant reservoir (usually a translucent container marked with MAX/MIN scale lines), and slowly unscrew the cap to release the system pressure. If only a top-up is needed, directly add the same type of coolant to the MAX line; if replacement is required, first drain the old coolant (through the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator or water pump) and flush the system with clean water until clear liquid flows out. When adding coolant, do it in stages: inject for the first time until it overflows, then start the engine and let it idle for 3-5 minutes to expel air. It is particularly important to note that coolants of different colors/models must not be mixed, as this may cause chemical reactions and damage the cooling system. Regularly checking the liquid level can prevent engine overheating. If an abnormal drop in the liquid level is found in a short period, it is necessary to check for leaks. During operation, keep the vehicle parked on a level surface and properly dispose of waste coolant (as it is toxic).
