Exhaust pipe leaks can indeed cause damage to the engine, with specific impacts depending on the location of the leak and the type of engine. A leak in the front section reduces exhaust backpressure, leading to decreased low-speed torque, difficulty starting, and increased fuel consumption in naturally aspirated engines. In turbocharged models, exhaust gas leakage significantly impairs turbocharger efficiency, resulting in noticeable power loss. A leak in the middle section is prone to causing rust in the exhaust pipe, which may rust through over time and affect chassis components, while a leak in the rear section usually has no direct impact on performance. Leaks also cause increased exhaust noise and abnormal exhaust gas colour; in severe cases, high-temperature gases may damage surrounding electrical components or pose safety hazards. Although naturally aspirated models are less affected, long-term untreated leaks will still accelerate carbon deposit formation and affect exhaust emissions during annual inspections. During daily maintenance, rust remover can be sprayed regularly and the chassis cleaned; if the exhaust pipe has rusted through, it needs to be replaced.
