Cars do need antifreeze, whose role goes far beyond winter antifreezing-it is a key medium for protecting the engine cooling system throughout the year. Antifreeze effectively dissipates heat to prevent engine overheating in high-temperature environments, while also providing anti-corrosion, anti-scale, and lubrication functions to protect metal components and rubber seals. New cars come pre-filled with antifreeze from the factory. Under normal conditions, it requires replacement every 2-3 years or 40,000-60,000 kilometres. Long-life products may last up to 5 years or 100,000 kilometres, but always refer to the vehicle manual for specifications. Regularly check the expansion tank level (between MIN and MAX when the engine is cold). When selecting antifreeze, strictly use the same brand and type. Local brands like Petronas use ethylene glycol-based formulas with a 118°C boiling point, suitable for tropical climates, but replacements must still comply with OEM specifications. In emergencies, distilled water may be temporarily used for replenishment, but proper antifreeze should be restored promptly to maintain system performance.
