To check the power steering fluid, first confirm whether the vehicle is equipped with a hydraulic power steering system; electric power steering models do not require this procedure. After opening the engine compartment, locate the black reservoir marked with a steering wheel icon (typically positioned on the engine's left side or near the windshield washer fluid filler). With the engine cold, observe the fluid level on the dipstick inside the reservoir-it should fall between the MIN and MAX marks. Premium power steering fluid appears transparent red or light yellow. Caution: The fluid is corrosive; immediate washing is required upon contact with skin or vehicle paint. Should abnormal fluid level depletion occur, thoroughly inspect the hoses, power steering pump, and seals for leaks. For vehicles exceeding 100,000 kilometres, unusual steering noises or increased steering effort may indicate internal pump wear requiring inspection. Regular maintenance ensures steering system reliability; power steering fluid replacement is recommended every 2 years or 40,000 kilometres.
