Power steering fluid can be topped up, but proper operating procedures must be followed to ensure system safety. As the critical medium in hydraulic steering systems, power steering fluid functions to transmit pressure and lubricate internal components. Prior to replenishment, ensure the vehicle is on level ground with the engine off. Locate the reservoir labeled "POWER STEERING" and verify the fluid level using either the dipstick or the "MIN/MAX" markings on the transparent reservoir. Special attention should be given to fluid condition: if discolored (black) or contaminated, complete replacement rather than simple replenishment is required. A full system flush and fluid change is recommended every 2 years or 30,000 kilometres. After servicing, start the engine and cycle the steering wheel fully left and right multiple times to purge air from the system, then recheck fluid level stability. Frequent fluid loss indicates potential steering system leaks that require investigation.
