Charging piles are infrastructure that provides electrical energy supply for electric vehicles, and are divided into two types: DC fast charging (DCFC) and AC slow charging (AC Charger). The power of DC fast charging piles typically ranges between 120kW and 480kW. For instance, Autel's 240kW device can charge most electric vehicles to 80% capacity within 30 minutes, making it suitable for scenarios requiring rapid charging such as highways or commercial areas, with a cost of approximately RM1.30/kWh. AC charging piles mostly have a power output of 22kW and are ideal for residential or office locations where vehicles remain parked for extended periods, costing around RM0.90/kWh. As of October 2024, over 3,000 public charging piles have been deployed, with plans to reach 10,000 by 2025, including 1,500 DC units. Advanced technologies like dynamic load balancing systems intelligently allocate power to enhance efficiency during simultaneous multi-vehicle charging. With the steady annual increase in electric vehicle registrations (reaching 15,780 in the first nine months of 2024), the expansion and technological advancements in charging infrastructure will continue to drive the adoption of electric mobility.
