Driving without releasing the electronic parking brake can cause multiple damages to the vehicle, with the primary impacts concentrated on the braking system. Continuous engagement of the electronic parking brake results in abnormal friction between the brake pads and rotors, accelerating their wear and generating excessive heat, which may lead to brake pad glazing, diminished braking performance, or even complete failure. The elevated temperatures can also cause brake fluid to boil and create vapor lock, resulting in a spongy or unresponsive brake pedal; in extreme cases, this may cause the braking system to smoke or ignite. Additionally, the engine must produce additional power to overcome the braking resistance, leading to increased fuel consumption (by approximately 15%-20%) and greater strain on the drivetrain. Prolonged operation under these conditions may reduce the service life of both the engine and transmission. Components of the electronic parking brake system, such as the actuator motor and wiring harness, may also overheat and sustain damage due to continuous electrical current, with repair costs typically ranging from RM500 to RM2000 depending on the severity of the damage. Should abnormal burning odors or increased brake pedal travel be detected, immediately stop the vehicle to allow system cooling and consult a qualified technician for inspection. During routine maintenance, particular attention should be paid to measuring rear brake pad thickness (minimum specification: 5mm) and testing brake fluid moisture content (must not exceed 3%). These preventive measures can mitigate system damage resulting from operational errors.
