Disc brakes and drum brakes each have their applicable scenarios, but for comprehensive performance, disc brakes are more suitable for the needs of modern passenger cars. Disc brakes feature an open design with excellent heat dissipation performance, effectively preventing thermal fade, making them particularly suitable for urban road conditions requiring frequent braking. They offer fast braking response, strong linearity, better compatibility with ABS systems, and superior drainage capability, reducing the risk of braking failure in rainy conditions. Drum brakes, with their advantages of high braking torque and low cost, remain widely used in commercial vehicles and the rear wheels of some economy cars. However, their enclosed structure results in poor heat dissipation and complex maintenance, making them prone to brake fade after prolonged use. Currently, mainstream vehicle models predominantly adopt front-disc/rear-drum or four-wheel disc brake configurations, while high-performance models are typically equipped with ventilated discs or ceramic brake discs to enhance heat resistance. Disc brakes should be prioritized for daily commuter vehicles, whereas the cost-effectiveness of drum brakes may be emphasized for load-carrying vehicles. Regular maintenance proves more crucial than merely pursuing specific brake types.
