The replacement cycle of spark plugs mainly depends on their material type. Nickel alloy spark plugs are recommended to be replaced every 20,000 to 30,000 kilometres, platinum spark plugs can be extended to 40,000 to 60,000 kilometres, while iridium or platinum-iridium alloy spark plugs have the best durability and are usually recommended to be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 kilometres. Due to the harsher working environment, turbocharged engines require a replacement cycle that is 30% to 50% shorter than that of naturally aspirated engines. For example, some German turbo models require mandatory replacement at 35,000 kilometres. If the vehicle has difficulty starting in cold conditions, lacks acceleration power, or has an abnormal fuel consumption increase of more than 10%, it may be caused by electrode wear or carbon buildup on the spark plugs, and immediate inspection is required. Choosing original equipment specifications or products from brands such as NGK and Bosch, and installing them strictly according to torque requirements, can prevent cylinder misfires or three-way catalytic converter damage caused by spark plug failures, while maintaining the engine's optimal performance and achieving a 5% to 10% improvement in fuel economy.
