When replacing spark plugs, comprehensive consideration should be given to material lifespan, vehicle symptoms, and physical inspection results. Conventional nickel alloy spark plugs are recommended for replacement every 20,000 to 30,000 kilometres, platinum ones approximately every 40,000 kilometres, and iridium ones can last 60,000 to 80,000 kilometres. If the vehicle exhibits symptoms such as rough idling, poor acceleration, cold-start difficulties, abnormal fuel consumption increases, or unusual engine vibrations, these may indicate enlarged electrode gaps, carbon buildup, or electrode erosion leading to diminished ignition performance, necessitating immediate inspection and replacement. During installation, a specialized torque wrench must be used to ensure clean mounting holes and prevent debris from entering the cylinders. DIY replacement requires competency in ignition coil removal/installation and electrode gap measurement (typically 0.7-1.1mm); otherwise, professional workshop service is advised, with costs ranging from RM80 to RM300 depending on spark plug material and labor time. Regular maintenance can prolong engine life and enhance fuel efficiency.
