Ahead of the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show, our team was on the ground to get an up-close look at the smart #5 BRABUS, which will be showcased at the event from 21 August.

The smart #5 BRABUS retains the overall shape of the standard model, including the Time Capsule full-width LED matrix headlights.

Up front, the BRABUS gets additional aerodynamic elements on both sides of the bumper, and a red accent along the lower section. The smart badge has also been finished in black.
The side profile gets 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with red brake callipers, along with red accents on the mirror caps and roof. Hidden door handles and a smart badge on the D-pillar complete the look.

At the rear, the full-width light remains, while the sculpted bumper gives the #5 BRABUS a chunkier, sportier look.
The familiar three-screen layout carries over, including the 13-inch OLED 2.5K dual display. The rounded screen frame, which takes its cue from a running track, is one of the cabin's more distinctive details.

The BRABUS adds carbon-fibre trim, while the steering wheel gets a BRABUS badge in place of the standard smart logo.

Other BRABUS details include dedicated headrest badges, red seat belts, red stitching on the seats and steering wheel, and metal accelerator pedals.
The most striking part is under the skin. The smart #5 BRABUS uses the SPA2 800V EV platform and gets a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup.

The system produces 475 kW (646 PS) and 710 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. There is also a dedicated BRABUS mode, giving the driver access to the car's full performance.
The smart #5 is already on sale in Malaysia, with two variants currently available:
