From RM 99k, 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross launched in Malaysia – 2 variants incl. hybrid, full TSS w/ACC, and more

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has officially expanded its Malaysian lineup with the launch of the 2026 Toyota Yaris Cross, a B-segment crossover available in two variants: the 1.5S (RM 99,900) and the hybrid 1.5S HEV (RM 109,900), both priced on-the-road without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia.

While it shares the same DNGA platform with the Perodua Traz, the Yaris Cross is positioned as a more premium offering, with more features and a Toyota-exclusive hybrid powertrain. Notably, while the Toyota Veloz is built in Rawang alongside the Perodua Alza, the Yaris Cross is locally assembled (CKD) at the Assembly Services’ (ASSB) plant in Bukit Raja, Klang.

Mechanicals and Performance

Under the hood, the Yaris Cross offers a choice of two 1.5-litre naturally aspirated powertrains. The base 1.5S uses the 2NR-VE petrol engine (106 PS / 138 Nm) paired with a D-CVT that includes steering-mounted paddle shifters for its seven virtual ratios.

Stepping up to the 1.5S HEV introduces a self-charging hybrid system featuring the 2NR-VEX engine and dual electric motors. This 111 PS system—the same unit found in the Vios Hybrid—delivers a claimed fuel consumption of 27.8 km/L (3.6 L/100 km). Both models feature a suspension setup consisting of MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear.

Equipment and Interior Tech

The two variants are visually similar, sharing 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, automatic wipers, and all-round disc brakes, with the HEV distinguished only by subtle badging. Inside, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a powered driver's seat come standard.

The HEV adds premium touches like perforated black leather seats, a wireless charging pad, and illuminated front scuff plates with legroom lamps. For 1.5S owners, the leather seats are non-perforated, and the wireless charger is available as a RM 550 option.

The Yaris Cross is available in five colors: Silver Metallic, Attitude Black, Dark Turquoise, Spicy Scarlet SE, and Platinum Pearl White (RM 400 extra). Peace of mind is provided via a 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty. The HEV's battery, inverter, and power management ECU are protected by an 8-year unlimited mileage warranty, with an optional 2-year extension available for RM 2,500.
