BYD Malaysia has officially confirmed that the Denza Z9 GT – the brand’s flagship luxury shooting brake – is making its way to our local market. The announcement was made at a recent media event, where a BYD Malaysia spokesperson revealed the model is set to arrive in 2026, as early as the second quarter (Q2) of this year.

Malaysian car enthusiasts would recall the Denza Z9 GT was first previewed locally in February 2025, and later showcased again at the BYD Tech Discovery event. For those unfamiliar with the model, it’s positioned as a high-end luxury shooting brake, designed to compete with premium options but with the added appeal of BYD’s advanced EV and PHEV technology – a key draw for local buyers amid Malaysia’s growing EV market.

Visually, the Denza Z9 GT stands out with its unique design. Up front, it features a split headlight setup, with daytime running lights placed lower than the main beams, creating a distinctive “mascara-like” look. At the rear, full-width taillights with intricate details add a touch of sophistication, while the preview unit shown in Malaysia came fitted with 20-inch aero wheels, enhancing its bold and stable stance.

In terms of size, the Z9 GT is a spacious option for Malaysian families and luxury seekers alike – it measures around 5.2 metres long with a 3,125 mm wheelbase, making it larger than popular executive shooting brakes like the Porsche Panamera and BMW 5 Series Touring. This means ample legroom and comfort for both front and rear passengers, a key consideration for local drivers who often travel with family or colleagues.

For those curious about its performance and specs (critical for Malaysian buyers), the Denza Z9 GT offers both pure electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options. The pure electric version boasts a three-motor four-wheel drive system with a total of 966Ps horsepower, accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds, while the PHEV variant combines a 2.0T engine with an electric motor for a powerful yet efficient drive. It also features a 800V+ high-voltage platform, allowing it to charge from 30% to 80% in just 19 minutes –perfect for long drives across Peninsular Malaysia or Sabah and Sarawak.

Inside, the Z9 GT promises a luxurious experience with leather upholstery, including a 17.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a 13.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Other key features include an extensive ambient lighting system, 50-watt Qi wireless charging pads, as well as a heated and cooled storage compartment neatly integrated under the centre armrest.

With Malaysia’s EV market growing rapidly – EV sales rose by 52.2% in 2025, accounting for 8.5% of total new car sales – the arrival of the Denza Z9 GT is set to further boost BYD’s presence in the country, following the brand’s 77% sales growth last year. Local car buyers can look forward to more details, including official pricing and local specifications, as the Q2 launch approaches.
