BYD Sime Motors Expands Network in 2026, Bringing Flagship BYD Mansion to Penang

For Malaysian car buyers, especially those eyeing electric vehicles (EVs), here’s great news: BYD Sime Motors – the official distributor of BYD in Malaysia – is ramping up its retail and aftersales network this year to make EV ownership more convenient across the country.

Currently, BYD has over 40 showrooms nationwide, and by the end of 2026, it will add 9 new service centres to reach a total of 34 aftersales touchpoints. The brand is also expanding beyond major cities: in Johor, new outlets are now open in Muar and Kluang; on the East Coast, BYD Kuala Terengganu joins existing facilities in Kuantan and Kota Bharu; and in the north, the brand has made its debut in Sungai Petani, Juru and Ipoh. There are also 12 body and paint outlets across Malaysia for easy repairs.

This expansion comes as BYD cements its position as Malaysia’s top EV brand for three straight years. Last year, the brand delivered 14,407 units – a 68% jump from 2024 – securing the 6th spot in the overall car brand rankings and 4th in the non-national segment. Its customer base is growing fast too: after taking 20 months to reach its first 10,000 customers, the next 10,000 came in just 13 months, and BYD Sime Motors expects to hit 30,000 customers next month.

The most anticipated addition this year is the flagship BYD Mansion in Penang, located on Macalister Road (near Georgetown’s city centre, close to Komtar and heritage sites). This stunning showroom features a glass structure wrapping around a heritage building, with the original facade preserved at the front – blending local cultural elements with a premium, modern design, making it a unique spot for Penangites to explore BYD’s lineup.

For existing and future BYD owners, the brand’s aftersales upgrade is a big plus: 80 EV-certified technicians (trained at BYD Academy) and a centralised parts warehouse ensure faster service, shorter waiting times, and more transparency – addressing common concerns about EV maintenance and downtime.

Eagle Zhao, MD of BYD Malaysia, said: “Our growing network reflects our commitment to raising EV ownership standards in Malaysia. Every new outlet is designed to offer a premium, customer-centric experience, combining advanced technology with convenience.” Jeffrey Gan, MD of Southeast Asia, Sime Motors, added: “As Malaysia’s leading BEV brand, we’re focused on making EVs more accessible, with better customer support to drive greater adoption.”
