UMW Toyota Sold 4,856 Units in February 2026, Mainly Driven by Vios HEV?

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has officially announced its sales data for February 2026, delivering 4,856 vehicles in the month. This figure represents a slight increase from the 4,700 units sold in January, with a moderate but steady growth rate, pushing the company’s year-to-date (YTD) total sales to 9,556 units in the first two months of 2026, laying a solid foundation for its full-year market performance.

Notably, UMW Toyota’s strong performance in February is highly consistent with the intensive rollout of its "multi-pathway" electrification strategy. In the first two months of 2026 alone, UMW Toyota has launched four hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) models to the Malaysian market: the first electrified Vios Hybrid, the updated Corolla Cross HEV GR Sport, the premium SUV Harrier HEV, and the luxury MPV Vellfire HEV, fully covering mainstream segments such as sedans, SUVs, and MPVs to meet the needs of different consumer groups.

It is reported that as one of the most representative mainstream sedans in Malaysia, the electrification upgrade of the Vios Hybrid has further lowered the threshold for consumers to access hybrid technology. Its locally assembled version is affordably priced, and its fuel efficiency is about 31% higher than that of the non-hybrid version, attracting widespread market attention since its launch.

Datuk Ravindran Kurusamy, President of UMW Toyota, stated that the launch of a diversified lineup of hybrid models aims to provide practical and accessible electrified options for Malaysian consumers, all supported by a reliable nationwide service network. He emphasized that the core of the "multi-pathway" strategy is to reject a "one-size-fits-all" technology route; by fully deploying hybrid models across different segments such as sedans and SUVs, consumers can easily enjoy the advantages of electrified travel without changing their existing car usage habits, truly achieving "mobility for all."

In addition, UMW Toyota’s local hybrid battery assembly facility provides strong support for the popularization of hybrid models. Located in the Bukit Raja plant, this facility has an annual production capacity of 30,000 units, effectively enhancing supply chain stability and reducing reliance on imported components. Coupled with the Toyota Extend extended warranty program and Toyota Service Savers maintenance plan, it further boosts consumers’ confidence in purchasing and their car ownership experience, providing additional support for sales growth.

From the perspective of the overall market environment, Malaysia’s overall automotive market experienced a month-on-month cooling in February 2026 due to the holiday period, but UMW Toyota still achieved steady year-on-year growth, highlighting the brand’s strong competitiveness in the local market. As a non-local automotive brand that has exceeded 100,000 units in annual sales for four consecutive years in Malaysia, UMW Toyota continues to maintain a leading position in the highly competitive market with its long-term brand accumulation, improved service system, and market-oriented product strategy.
