As the core C-segment sedan under Proton, the 2026 upgraded S70 MC1 has received an overwhelmingly positive market response since its official launch in Malaysia on February 11. According to the brand’s latest official data, the facelifted model secured 7,157 orders in just one month after launch, demonstrating strong market competitiveness.

Meanwhile, since the model first entered the Malaysian market in November 2023, its cumulative deliveries have successfully surpassed 40,112 units, making it a standout popular choice in the local C-segment sedan market.

Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar, stated that the milestone of 40,000 cumulative deliveries for the S70 marks an important moment in Proton’s brand development and fully reflects the recognition and ongoing trust of Malaysian consumers.

He emphasized that the brand will continue this positive growth momentum while leveraging its nationwide sales and service network to deliver stable and convenient ownership experiences for every customer, further strengthening user confidence.

The Proton S70 is based on the Geely Emgrand but features targeted powertrain upgrades, distinguishing it significantly from the Geely Emgrand’s 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and CVT transmission with enhanced performance.

Before the MC1 update, the model was equipped with a 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 150PS maximum power and 226Nm peak torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, suitable for daily commuting and light driving.

The key highlight of the 2026 S70 MC1 is its fully upgraded powertrain. Replacing the previous 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged engine is an all-new 1.5L i-GT four-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection engine, with significantly improved output: maximum horsepower rises to 181PS and peak torque reaches 290Nm. The powertrain delivers stronger and smoother performance while balancing fuel efficiency and driving refinement, boosting its competitiveness in the segment.

Notably, following the MC1 launch, Proton S70’s monthly sales climbed to 1,940 units in February, a 20% increase month-on-month, ranking sixth in Malaysia’s monthly vehicle sales chart and becoming Proton’s second best-selling model that month. This result confirms the powertrain upgrade aligns precisely with market demand and injects new growth vitality into the model.

Additionally, the new engine is jointly developed by Proton and its global partner Geely, incorporating advanced technologies such as low-inertia turbocharging and friction/vibration reduction. It enhances performance while effectively refining engine noise and vibration, further improving ride comfort.
