The all-new Mazda 6e, a global electric flagship sedan co-developed by Mazda and Changan Auto, has officially made its debut in Thailand and is now open for booking. As Thailand is a key Southeast Asian market for Mazda with a 70-year presence, the launch of the 6e there has sparked widespread speculation among Malaysian car enthusiasts: will this sleek electric sedan make its way to Malaysia soon?

Positioned as a premium electric mid-size sedan, the Mazda 6e boasts impressive performance figures that rival popular models in Malaysia’s EV segment. It delivers a maximum power of 245 PS, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, and offers a maximum driving range of 654 km – a competitive range that addresses range anxiety, a common concern among Malaysian EV buyers. Its main competitors in the local market will be the Tesla Model 3 and BYD SEAL, two well-established electric sedans in Malaysia.

In terms of design, the Mazda 6e embodies the brand’s iconic Kodo design philosophy with a modern electric twist. The front features a 3D wing-shaped closed grille with LED lighting, paired with three-dimensional LED headlights that enhance its sleek and sporty look. On the side, it comes with 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sport wheels and hidden door handles, while the rear is equipped with a full-width LED taillight integrated with round LED lamps. A standout feature is its electric rear spoiler, which automatically deploys at high speeds to increase downforce and improve grip, ensuring stable driving. The overall Fastback design not only enhances aerodynamics but also gives the car a stylish, coupe-like silhouette that is likely to appeal to Malaysian consumers who value both aesthetics and functionality.

Inside the cabin, the Mazda 6e is packed with advanced tech and comfort features. It comes with a 10.1-inch full LCD instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, and a 50-inch AR HUD, providing drivers with clear and comprehensive driving information. The D-shaped two-spoke steering wheel adds a sporty touch, while the front seats are zero-gravity units designed for long-distance comfort. Other highlights include a wireless charging pad on the center console, ambient lighting, a 14-speaker Sony premium sound system, and rear leather electric memory seats – all of which elevate the in-car experience. Safety is also a top priority, with 9 airbags as standard, along with a high-strength steel cage structure (86% high-strength steel) that meets strict European safety standards.

In terms of dimensions, the Mazda 6e offers a more spacious interior compared to its main rival, the Tesla Model 3 – a key advantage for Malaysian families. It measures 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,491 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,895 mm. In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 is 4,720 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, 1,442 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. The Mazda 6e also offers ample storage space: a 330L boot that expands to 1,074L when the rear seats are folded, plus an additional 70L frunk (front trunk), making it ideal for family trips or daily use.

Currently, the Mazda 6e is available for booking in Thailand, with an estimated starting price of RM180,000. As Mazda continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup in Southeast Asia, following the launch of models like the Mazda EZ-60 globally, the 6e’s arrival in Malaysia seems highly probable. For Malaysian car buyers looking for a stylish, high-performance electric sedan with ample space and advanced features, the Mazda 6e could be a strong contender once it hits local showrooms.
