Omoda C9 PHEV Launched in Malaysia: RM208,800, 537 PS & 145 km EV Range

Omoda, a rising automotive brand under Chery Group, has officially launched its much-anticipated C9 PHEV in Malaysia on March 18, 2026. The plug-in hybrid SUV arrives with a competitive on-the-road price of RM208,800 (without insurance), targeting local buyers seeking a powerful, fuel-efficient and feature-packed vehicle.

Initially, the Omoda C9 PHEV is available as a fully imported (CBU) model with a limited run of just 50 units. For Malaysian car buyers, this is followed by locally assembled (CKD) units, which are already in production at the Shah Alam plant—good news for those looking for potentially shorter delivery times and local after-sales support.

To sweeten the deal, Omoda is offering an exclusive launch package for bookings made between March 18 and April 30. This includes a RM3,000 duit Raya rebate (perfect for the upcoming festive season) and a complimentary vehicle-to-load (V2L) connector worth RM730. Additionally, a limited number of the CBU units come with one year of free insurance coverage, valued at RM6,000—while stocks last, so interested buyers are advised to act fast.

Under the hood, the C9 PHEV boasts an impressive powertrain that combines performance and efficiency. It features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (143 PS/215 Nm) paired with a Super Hybrid System (SHS) borrowed from the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, but upgraded with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). This DHT allows the petrol engine to drive the wheels even at lower speeds, boosting acceleration.

The hybrid setup includes a dual-motor front configuration (a P2 integrated starter-generator and a P2.5 traction motor) plus a rear axle motor, delivering all-wheel drive (AWD) and a combined output of 537 PS and 650 Nm. This translates to a blistering 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h—more than enough for Malaysian highways and city driving.

For electric driving, the C9 PHEV is equipped with a 34.46 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a WLTP-certified EV range of 145 km. This is ideal for daily commutes in cities like Kuala Lumpur, Selangor or Penang, allowing drivers to run on electric power alone and save on fuel costs. When combined with its 70-litre fuel tank, the SUV delivers a claimed total hybrid range of 1,100 km—great for long-distance trips across Peninsular Malaysia.

Charging convenience is covered too: the battery supports up to 70 kW DC fast charging, which takes just 25 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% SoC. For home charging, 6.6 kW AC charging takes around 5.5 hours (30-100%), while a standard 2.7 kW AC charger will fully charge the battery in 12 hours (10-100%).

Driving versatility is a key highlight for Malaysian roads, which vary from urban congestion to rural and hilly terrain. The C9 PHEV offers six drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sand, Off-Road, Snow and Sport), three levels of energy regeneration, and easy switching between EV and HEV modes. Its suspension features continuous damping control (CDC) with Soft, Medium, Hard and Auto settings, ensuring a smooth ride on both bumpy rural roads and smooth highways.

Externally, the C9 PHEV comes with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin e-Primacy tyres (245/50R20), LED adaptive headlamps with sigma-style DRLs, automatic high beam, headlamp washers, dynamic front turn signals, LED tail lamps, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding heated door mirrors with memory, a powered tailgate and roof rails. Access is convenient via an NFC key for keyless entry, plus remote window and tailgate opening—perfect for busy Malaysian families.

Inside, the SUV offers a premium cabin with leather upholstery (seats, instrument panel and steering wheel), heated and ventilated seats for both front and rear passengers (a must in Malaysia’s hot weather), six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat.
