Under a premium new energy brand under BYD, the Denza D9 has quickly become a popular model in Malaysia’s high-end MPV market since its launch, thanks to its premium spacious cabin and advanced new energy technologies, with prices starting from RM259,000.

On 19 March, Denza officially unveiled the second-generation Denza D9 and released its official images. This heavily upgraded flagship MPV has completed the declaration with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), featuring comprehensive core technology innovations, and is expected to be introduced to the Malaysian market to further strengthen its presence.

Exterior Refinement: Subtle Tweaks for Enhanced Sophistication; PHEV and EV Now Feature a Unified Front Design

Positioned as a full-size luxury MPV, the second-generation Denza D9 retains its generous dimensions, measuring 5250mm in length, 1960mm in width and 1900mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3110mm. Its spacious interior remains a core advantage, perfectly catering to both family travel and business hospitality needs, while retaining the well-received two-tone body design from the current model to elevate the vehicle’s overall luxury appeal.

The new model has received refined exterior upgrades, with newly optimised chrome trim inside the front grille that adds more layers and a stronger three-dimensional effect. One of the biggest highlights of this facelift is that the PHEV variant and EV variant adopt the same front fascia design for the first time, delivering a more cohesive overall style and a simpler, more premium visual effect. A variety of wheel options are also available to meet diverse personalised demands.

Core Technology Enhancement: Second-Generation Blade Battery and Ultra-Fast Charging Elevate the Charging Experience

The most pivotal upgrade of the new model is the adoption of the all-new second-generation Blade Battery and exclusive ultra-fast charging technology launched by BYD Group, which fully addresses the pain points of slow recharging and reduced range in low temperatures for new energy vehicles – a key practical feature highly concerned by Malaysian consumers.

According to official data, the second-generation Blade Battery offers industry-leading charging efficiency: it takes only 5 minutes to charge from 10% to 70% battery level, and just 9 minutes to charge from 10% to 97%. Even in an extremely cold environment of -20°C, it takes only 12 minutes to charge from 20% to 97%, and the charging time at -30°C is merely 3 minutes longer than that at room temperature. When using ordinary charging piles in daily use, its charging speed is 30% to 50% faster than ordinary new energy vehicles, greatly shortening waiting time during travel.

Dual Powertrain Options: Enhanched Range and Fuel Efficiency

The second-generation Denza D9 continues to offer two powertrain options: PHEV and EV, covering diverse usage scenarios with fully optimised parameters that balance power and efficiency.

PHEV Variant:It is equipped with a 1.5T ultra-high thermal efficiency engine and a dual-motor plug-in hybrid system, with a maximum engine power of 115kW, a front motor maximum power of 200kW and a rear motor maximum power of 45kW. Fitted with the second-generation Blade Battery, it is expected to achieve a CLTC pure electric range of over 400km, with a WLTC fuel consumption of just 6.35L per 100km in charge-sustaining mode. This eliminates range anxiety for long-distance travel, while pure electric driving in urban areas ensures more cost-effective daily commutes.

EV Variant:It is available in front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. The front-wheel drive variant is equipped with a single 340kW motor, while the four-wheel drive variant features a 340kW front motor and a 70kW rear motor respectively. It offers CLTC cruising ranges of 750km and 800km, easily handling long-distance cross-state journeys.

Following the completion of MIIT declaration in China, the new model is scheduled to officially launch in China in the first half of 2026. As a popular high-end MPV already well-established in the Malaysian market, this fully upgraded second-generation Denza D9 will further compete with local high-end fuel-powered MPVs and peer new energy models once introduced to Malaysia, making it a model well worth the attention of local family and business users.
