While Malaysian car enthusiasts are still celebrating the arrival of the 2026 Proton X70 with its long-awaited 4-cylinder engine, Geely has dropped a bombshell in China. On March 31, the latest member of the Boyue family — the Boyue REV — officially launched with three variants. The special introductory price ranges from 10.79k to 12.09k RMB (approx. RM66k to RM74k).
Although the 4-cylinder X70 is a "dream come true" for many, the super range-extender (REEV) technology showcased by the Boyue REV might actually be the ultimate answer for the future of C-segment SUVs in Malaysia.

The 2026 Proton X70 (MC3), which debuted in Malaysia this January, transitioned to a 1.5L i-GT 4-cylinder engine (181PS / 290Nm). Its fuel consumption improved to 6.9L/100km, offering a quieter and more refined drive.
However, the Boyue REV shifts the game into the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) lane.
Core Specs: Equipped with an 11-in-1 Range-Extender Electric Drive system and Aegis "Golden Brick" Battery.
Range: Offers a pure electric range (CLTC) of up to 375km and a combined range of 1,525km! This means you can drive from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok on a single tank without needing to stop for fuel.
Extreme Efficiency: Even with a depleted battery, fuel consumption is as low as 4.95L/100km. Compared to the X70's 6.9L, the efficiency of REEV technology is clearly superior.

Malaysians love the X70 for its family-friendly space, but the Boyue REV takes it a step further.
Cabin Space: With a wheelbase of 2,778mm (108mm longer than the X70's 2,670mm), it boasts an 88.5% space utilization rate. The rear seats fold flat into a 1.93-meter "bed", perfectly catering to Malaysia's growing camping trend.
Ride Tech: It features FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) and the CST (Comfort Stop Technology) to prevent motion sickness. For those who frequently travel long distances to Thailand or Singapore, this effectively filters road vibrations and smooths out braking pitch, significantly reducing nausea and enhancing passenger comfort.

The Boyue REV is powered by the Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit system, featuring a 15-inch W-HUD and a 16-speaker audio system. While our local X70 now supports wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto on its 12.3-inch screen, the Boyue REV is generations ahead in terms of ecosystem integration and tech-savviness.

The 2026 X70's return to 4-cylinders is a pragmatic move to satisfy market demands for reliability and NVH. However, the Boyue REV reminds us that Range-Extender (REEV) technology is the best solution for long-distance interstate (and cross-border) travel.
With global sales of the Boyue surpassing 2.3 million units, we hope Proton will consider introducing this "Super Platinum REEV" system in the next-generation X70. If an X70 can travel 1,500km on a single tank, would a pure EV still be on your shortlist?
