Burgers meet Flash Charging: BYD partners with KFC for a full belly and full battery in 9 minutes

Imagine pulling up at a KFC drive-thru and getting a full charge before your song ends.

In a groundbreaking move, BYD has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with global fast-food giant KFC. The partnership aims to integrate new energy vehicle (NEV) technology with KFC's drive-thru expertise. Targeting the familiar drive-thru experience loved by Malaysian drivers, BYD will introduce its advanced flash-charging technology and smart cockpit systems to create a convenient "9-minute one-stop human-vehicle refueling" ecosystem.

Is It Really Just 9 Minutes?

The core of this BYD-KFC collaboration is to eliminate range anxiety for electric vehicle owners. According to official details, the seamless workflow works as follows:

Smart Ordering: While driving, users can pre-order and pay for their meal using BYD's intelligent voice assistant.

Drive-Thru Pickup: Upon arrival at the KFC drive-thru, there's no need to queue — simply roll down the window to collect your order.

Flash Charging: Plug into the dedicated BYD flash-charging station at the outlet. While you enjoy your meal, the vehicle can receive a high-capacity charge in just 9 minutes.

Hardware Tech: 2nd-Gen Blade Battery + 1,500kW Flash Charging

The secret behind the "9-minute revival" is BYD's upcoming second-generation Blade Battery, paired with an ultra-powerful 1,500kW flash-charging system. This combination enables the vehicle to charge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes.

On the software side, BYD's premium sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao will debut the "KFC Smart Ordering" feature on its Ti7 model. This intelligent function will later be rolled out to other major BYD models via OTA updates. The system can intelligently match your driving route with nearby KFC outlets and send timely pickup reminders.

When Will It Arrive in Malaysia?

Li Yunfei, General Manager of BYD Branding and Public Relations, revealed that BYD has already built over 5,000 flash-charging stations in China, with a target of 20,000 stations by the end of 2026.

Malaysian fans have reason to be excited: BYD plans to expand its flash-charging network into overseas markets by the end of 2026. Given Malaysia's importance as a key market in Southeast Asia and KFC's widespread presence across the country, the convenient experience of "charging your car while enjoying fried chicken" could become a reality sooner than expected.

This deep integration of lifestyle and mobility may well represent the "new normal" of the EV era. Unlike traditional refuelling, the BYD-KFC partnership goes far beyond mere efficiency — it's about redefining how we experience everyday moments. If this experience finally arrives in Malaysia, here's the real question: Would you happily order an extra two pieces of Original Recipe chicken just for that effortless 9-minute charge?
