At the 2026 Intelligent Electric Vehicle Development Forum recently held in Beijing, Ma Zhixin, Member of the Nissan Global Executive Committee and President of Nissan China, delivered a keynote speech titled "Winning Together in the Intelligent Electric Era". In his address, Ma highlighted Nissan's successful return to a growth trajectory in China's highly competitive market. He also revealed plans to leverage advanced products developed in China to serve global consumers, including those in Southeast Asia, through Nissan's established worldwide distribution network.

Sales Back on Growth Track

Ma Zhixin noted that despite ongoing market fluctuations, Nissan's brand resilience in China remains strong, supported by a loyal user base of 19 million customers. Under the Re:Nissan plan, the China team has been granted unprecedented decision-making autonomy. Since 2025, Nissan has launched five new energy products spanning sedans, SUVs, and pickups, including the N6, N7, NX8, Frontier Pro PHEV, and Z9 GE PHEV.

Full-Year 2025 Sales: Surpassed 650,000 units

Growth Trend: A 7.2% year-on-year increase in Q1 2026, signalling a recovery in momentum

NX8 Launch: Defining a New Standard for Family Travel

As the flagship model of Nissan's "Year of New Energy SUVs", the mid-to-large NX8 officially hit the market in early April. It is the third model in the N-series and represents a showcase of Nissan's advanced EV technology.

BEV Version: It features an 800V high-voltage Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform and 5C ultra-fast charging.

EREV Version: Equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender and a 43.2 kWh CATL battery, the EREV variant offers a CLTC pure electric range of 310 km and a total driving range of up to 1,450 km, effectively eliminating range anxiety.

Developed in China, Sold Globally

For markets with strong pickup demand such as Malaysia, Nissan's export strategy is particularly noteworthy. Following the establishment of an import-export entity in Guangzhou in August 2025, the first batch of Frontier Pro pickups held its official export ceremony on April 1, 2026. This milestone marks the official implementation of Nissan's "Developed in China, Sold Globally" strategy.

Frontier Pro PHEV Highlights

The Frontier Pro PHEV combines decades of Nissan's global pickup expertise with China's leading smart and electric drive technologies. With the global pickup market exceeding 900,000 units annually, this new-energy pickup — blending comfort, reliability, and advanced technology — is poised to reshape the segment.

Summary

Nissan's transformation is not limited to China. By refining its technology in the world's most competitive market, Nissan is now bringing high-value, high-tech products such as the NX8 and Frontier Pro to global customers. For Malaysia's rapidly evolving EV and hybrid landscape, these China-developed models are definitely ones to watch.
