2026 Toyota GR Yaris Launched in Malaysia: Enhanced handling, New Race-Bred Steering Wheel, Priced from RM316k

Just one month after its global reveal, UMW Toyota Motor has officially introduced the updated 2026 Toyota GR Yaris to the Malaysian market. The high-performance all-wheel-drive hot hatch arrives with precision-engineered upgrades focused on enhancing driver ergonomics and chassis feedback.

Pricing and Variants 

The 2026 Toyota GR Yaris maintains its competitive pricing in Malaysia and is available in two transmission options:

6-speed Intelligent Manual (6MT): RM315,600

8-speed GR Direct Automatic (8AT): RM325,600

Key Interior Upgrade: Driver-Centric Cockpit 

The most significant change in the 2026 GR Yaris is the all-new GR-specific steering wheel, developed in collaboration with professional racing drivers.

Optimized Grip: The revised steering wheel shape is designed to fit more naturally in the driver's palms, offering superior control and feedback during high-angle cornering.

Tactile Precision: Switches have been repositioned closer to the airbag housing and away from the spokes, reducing the risk of accidental activation during spirited driving.

Backlit Controls: All switches are now illuminated, ensuring excellent visibility during night driving or track sessions.

Chassis & Dynamics 

To complement the new steering wheel, the Electric Power Steering (EPS) has been meticulously recalibrated. It now delivers more precise and refined feedback, particularly when the car is pushed hard on high-grip tyres or during heavy braking.

Additionally, the dampers have received revised calibration to strike an even better balance between everyday comfort and track-ready stability.

Unchanged Powerhouse 

Under the hood sits the legendary G16E-GTS 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo engine, delivering 300 PS at 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h. The GR-Four AWD System offers three selectable modes including Normal (60:40), Gravel (50:50), and Track (variable 60:40 to 30:70).

The 2026 Toyota GR Yaris is backed by a comprehensive 5-year unlimited mileage warranty. It is available in four signature colours, including Platinum White Pearl Mica and Emotional Red 2.
