As Malaysia's best-selling electric SUV, the BYD Atto 3 (known as the Yuan Plus in China) is finally getting a complete generational overhaul.
According to the latest "Catalogue of New Energy Vehicles Exempt from Vehicle Purchase Tax" released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the specifications for the next-generation BYD Yuan Plus have been officially revealed. The new model not only grows in size but also introduces high-performance variants and significantly improved range — features that Malaysian enthusiasts have been anticipating.

Compared to the current Atto 3's front-motor setup (150 kW / 204 PS), the all-new model introduces a major change by adopting a Rear-Wheel Drive layout. Two power outputs will be available:
The switch to RWD is expected to deliver sharper steering feel and higher handling limits, while acceleration performance will see a significant improvement over the current model.

The new model will be equipped with BYD's latest second-generation Blade Battery, which offers higher energy density. Two battery variants have been leaked:
For context, the current Atto 3 Extended Range sold in Malaysia has an NEDC range of 480 km. The new generation is expected to deliver a massive leap in real-world efficiency, making long-distance interstate travel more convenient.

The next-generation Yuan Plus has grown noticeably in every dimension, with a longer wheelbase promising more spaciousness in the cabin.
Length: 4,665 mm (+210mm)
Width: 1,895 mm (+20mm)
Height: 1,675 mm (+60mm)
Wheelbase: 2,770 mm (+50mm)

The all-new Yuan Plus (next-generation Atto 3) is expected to make its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show later this month. Given typical launch timelines, Malaysian customers can anticipate the more powerful and spacious Atto 3 to arrive in Malaysia by late 2026 or early 2027.
