Leapmotor A05 Specs Leaked: Up to 510km Range, Targeting the Entry-Level EV Market

As Stellantis Malaysia officially launches the Leapmotor brand in the local market, the brand's upcoming models have quickly become a major focus for Malaysian car buyers. Recently, key powertrain details for the Leapmotor A05 were revealed in the latest regulatory filings from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This fully electric compact sedan is expected to offer two range variants — 405 km and 510 km — targeting the highly competitive entry-level EV segment.

Performance and Range

According to official data, the Leapmotor A05 will be available with two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery options to meet different commuting needs.

Standard Range: Equipped with a 39.8 kWh battery, delivering a CLTC range of 405 km and powered by a 70 kW electric motor.

Extended Range: Equipped with a 53 kWh battery, offering a CLTC range of 510 km and powered by a 90 kW electric motor.

Although the power outputs are modest and not performance-focused, the A05's lightweight body and maximum range of 510 km (CLTC) make it a highly practical choice for daily urban commuting and short-to-medium distance intercity travel.

Exterior Design: A Friendly and Rounded Aesthetic

The Leapmotor A05 adopts an approachable and rounded design language, characterized by its sleek and fluid silhouette.

Front: It features the signature closed grille typical of EVs, with the Leapmotor logo prominently centered. The rounded headlight clusters deliver a clean, modern, and high-tech appearance.

Side: The body lines are smooth and flowing, highlighted by a continuous waistline that runs from front to rear. The stylish floating roof design adds visual depth and enhances its appeal.

Rear: The rear design echoes the front with internal light signatures that form a "smiling face" pattern, offering excellent visual recognition at night. A black trim on the lower rear bumper adds a touch of sporty elegance.

With the C10 already launched in Malaysia, the A05 has the potential to become Leapmotor's most affordable model in the local lineup. Given Malaysia's current EV incentives and Stellantis Malaysia's market strategy, the A05 could emerge as a strong contender in the entry-level EV segment, directly challenging popular models such as the BYD Dolphin. This is especially true if it is introduced through the CKD (completely knocked down) route, which would help maintain a competitive price point around the RM100,000 mark.
